"The pianists loved their
music, loved
playing, and breathed together
so that phrasing often seemed
to be the impulse of a
single artist."

An American and Australian team based in
San Francisco, The Angelo
Piano Duo brings an eclectic mixture of musical styles to the concert
stage. With a repertoire that encompasses the richness of the Classical
and Romantic styles, the Angelo Duo’s programs offer the elegance of Mozart
and Clementi, the charm of Schubert and Dvorak, and the passion of Brahms
and Rachmaninoff. Equally at ease with composers of the 20th Century,
these performers are seriously committed to the discovery of contemporary
works for two pianos and one piano four-hands. Programs feature well-known
twentieth century composers and several living American, Australian, and
Russian composers.
In addition to extensive appearances in the Western United States,
the Angelo Piano Duo has performed in Australia, England, Italy, Russia
and the Baltic States. The Angelo Duo has made four successful
concert tours to Russia and other Eastern European countries, including
performances at both the Second and the Fourth International Piano Duo
Festivals in Novosibirsk, Russia, the Fifth International Easter Festival
of Classical Music and the Northern Flowers International Festival in
St. Petersburg, and the Third and Fourth International Piano Duo Festival
in Siauliai, Lithuania. The duo's 1999 tour to Eastern Europe
was sponsored by an NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) / USIA (U.
S. Information Agency) grant from The Fund For U. S. Artists At International
Festivals.
Recent Bay Area appearances include the Performances at Six Concert
Series and Old First Concerts as well as several performances on the
Noontime Concert Series at Old St. Mary's Church and a world premiere
on the San Francisco Conservatory of Music's Faculty Artists’ Series
of a new work for two pianos written for them by San Francisco Composer,
David Garner.
The Angelo Piano Duo has been selected by the California Arts Council
to be included in its Directory of Touring Artists.
Alumni of The San Francisco Conservatory
of Music, Catherine and Anthony Angelo began their partnership at The
Music and Arts Institute in San Francisco, where they studied with Ross
McKee. The team was developed and refined at the San Francisco Conservatory
of Music under the direction of Peggy
Salkind, of the distinguished piano duo, Milton and Peggy Salkind.
The Angelo Duo has recorded two Cds: Brahms
By The Bridge on Arkay Records, En Blanc
et Noir (In Black and White) on the Con Molto Classics label.
The latter features works for two pianos and one piano four-hands by Debussy,
Grainger/Gershwin, and California composers David Garner and Bruce
Cameron Munson. The Angelo Piano duo has been a featured guest
artist on “West Coast Weekend” on KQED-FM, San Francisco, and performances
have been broadcast on Radio Riga, Latvia; Novosibirsk Radio and Television,
Siberia, Russia; Public Educational Television, Thailand; and the
Australian Broadcasting Commission. The Angelo Duo also performs
and records with the Bridge
Sextet, a vocal quartet and piano duo ensemble. The Bridge Sextet's
CD, Brahms by the Bridge features both sets of Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes.
